Thursday, July 9th

Today was our last day of ministry with the kids. You should have seen their faces as they played on the new playground for the first time! That was priceless! We spent the day wrapping up the Day Camp and having a last meal with our interpreters. They were such an incredible bunch of young people. They are our voice here in Romania. It is such a blessing to have such dedicated young people to work with. Multimesc! to you all.

Tomorrow we head out for a day of sightseeing and shopping in Brasov, Romania. The ministry has been wonderful, but it will be nice to have a day of R&R. The team has been working so hard this week and have accomplished so much! Please pray for us as we begin our travel back home.

Wednesday, July 8th

Here's the view from my hotel balcony. It's about 6:45 am. You may be able to hear the rooster crowing in the background and the sounds of our little village waking up. Another day of ministry is ahead! Yesterday the playground equipment came in, which was so exciting. A crowd of children began to assemble at the gate as the brightly colored slides, and swings and see-saws were off loaded. The new little playground looks like "Six Flags" in this neighborhood. I can't wait to see the faces of the children when they see it today! We are almost "Dunn" with the entryway make-over. It is beautiful...just a few more of Judy's accessorizing skills and the place will be transformed. She did a number on Liviu's office, he's the director of the Child Development Center where we are working. Liviu is a mild mannered wonderful man who loves the children and who I think is almost more excited about the playground than the children! It was neat to see his excitement as each piece of equipment came off the truck. I'll definately have to post some video today. Pray for good internet access!

Well, I must be off to breakfast now.

Tuesday, July 7th

Sorry we didn't get a post up last night. The internet went down in our hotel and this is the first time I've had access!

Our first day with the children and the CDC was a wonderful success. The team is doing a fantastic job! We also began the work on the entryway remodel project. It is looking great! Much work was done yesterday preparing the yard for the playground equipment that should have been delivered on Monday, but they promise WILL be delivered today! Please pray that it arrives on time so we will have the time to install while we are here.

I will try to upload more pictures so you can see the work God is allowing us to do here. Today is going to be a busy day, filled with lot's of work, so your prayers for stamina are greatly appreciated.

Blessings,
JF

Jet Lag...

It's after midnight now and I'm wide awake. Connor and I are up eating Jo bars (my favorite Romanian treat) and he's watching bolt on his laptop while I'm up posting this blog. I sure hope I can get the body clock on this side of the world soon!

We had a good day travelling today and are now in Tarneveni, Romania. Our hotel is nice but a little bit warm, as we do not have AC here. Evening is cool but our room is a bit warm. Got the fan going and the balcony window/door open...so it won't be too bad. Nancy doesn't seem to mind since she's cutting some pretty loud zzzzz's right now. Hey Connor, can you turn up the volume on the computer!

We met with our hostess for the week, Gabbi. She is a wonderful lady, very committed to her work here and very competant. She has thought of everything and has made our first day here go very smoothly. We toured the CDC (Child Developement Center) If you link to the pictures I uploaded at http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=933031023/a=1147367023_1147367023/otsc=SHR/otsi=SALBlink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

You will see a pic of the front of the CDC. It's the building with the sign that says, "Centrul de zi" which means "Day Center"

This is the building we will be working on and is also where will have our Day Camp with the Children beginning on Monday. We are also working on building a playground in the front yard! Can't wait to get started on that. The playground equipment we ordered is supposed to be delivered on Monday, so please pray that it gets her on time! Today we hit the local "Home Depot" which here is the BeauMax and practically bought the place out! It was great to watch Judy Dunn and her crew as they worked through the creative process of planning to transform the entryway of the CDC. They have some stunning plans for the CDC and I know it will soon be an exciting and welcoming "first impression" for the kids that are ministered to there every day.

Pray for the kids in this community. It was so interesting that just our presence at the CDC drew a crowd of curious kids and adults. They are in desparate need physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It could be very overwhelming, so we are praying that the Lord will give us wisdom and discernment as we seek to minister to them.

Tomorrow, or well...later today, we will be attending church at a local Gypsie church. We are supposed to lead some singing, share testimonies, and have about an hour with the children to do crafts, play some games, and just get acquainted with them. Connor is looking forward to finally meeting some kids his own age. He's been great, but I'm sure hanging with all the adults is getting old for him. He asked me tonight if he was going to meet some new "friends" tommorrow that he could play with. Pray that he can quickly get acquainted with some new friends and that the language barrier won't be too bad for them. Kids are kids, so I'm sure he'll have a great time with some kids his own age.

Thank you for your prayers. More tomorrow!

Saturday, July 4

Well we are spending July 4th in Romania. Where's all the red, white, and blue? It's a cool crisp morning here in Brasov, Romania. We have already hit our first snag in the plans. One of our team members, Tyler, was not allowed on the flight from Amsterdam to Bucharest! KLM says his name was not on the ticket...hmmm...it was on the ticket from Lafayette to Memphis and then from Memphis to Amsterdam???? Oh well...Judy had to stay back in Amsterdam to work out getting another ticket to Bucharest. We then had to figure out how to get Judy and Tyler from Bucharest to Brasov, where our first night reservations are! Well...Thank the Lord, we all have finally made it Brasov. At the time of this writing most are still getting some much needed rest and/or are preparing for the day which will include traveling to Tirnaveni, Romania where we will spend most of our time this week.

Please continue to pray for safety, good weather, and good spirits as we travel today.
